The Pearl

Response to The Pearl

Different things happen all the time, whether they’re bad things or good things, but sometimes the good things turn bad in the end. When something good happens to someone it usually changes the person. Especially when it involves money because people end up going head over heels knowing that they have so much money. Tragedies happen on a regular basis, from war to losing a family member, but good things happen just as often.
The story “The Pearl” by John Steinbeck tells a story about a family that has a problem and finds a solution to their problem but end up with more problems and in danger. In the story, the terrible thing that happens is that is the baby of the family gets stung by a scorpion and needs help.
Think about it, maybe you will be sad for the family, but others may not. When tragedies happen some people may get sensitive about it and others won. That still doesn’t mean they no feelings though. Once the baby gets stung they take him to the doctor and although everyone that lives close to them cares about the baby the doctor and the more wealthy people don’t care about his health.
Although the story had a tragedy it got turned around by something good. After the family took the baby to the doctor and the doctor wouldn’t help them because they had no money, the family went out to find a way to get the help the baby needed. Lucky for them the father found a pearl. Bad things can be turned around, but not all the time will you end up with a valuable pearl.
Less often than not will things like that happen. Even though the bad things can become batter it doesn’t mean that it will end good. Like in “The Pearl”, although they found a pearl, it still ends in a tragedy. Good things happen a lot, but tragic things happen, too.
