Response To Stolen Day
“Ahh man, I forgot to do my homework,” Jim said as the teacher walked his way. “Jim where’s your homework,” Miss Dorok asked? “I did it but I forgot it at home,” he responded. “Ok well if you bring it tomorrow you can still get full credit but only if you promise its already done and you just forgot it at home,” she said. “It’s done I promise I just forgot it,” says Jim. You may have to lie at times to keep people from pain, but overall lying will just come back to haunt you.
The story “Stolen Day” by Sherwood Anderson is a story that reflects on a boy that doesn’t want to go to school and just wants to go fishing like the boy from down the street so the boy lies to get sent home from school. When something bad happens or maybe good you may have to lie but when it’s not to keep someone from pain it’s not the right thing to do. After the boy lies he gets to do fun things but later he was embarrassed because of what he did. While he was fishing he thinks about what would happen if he killed himself. Which means he must not feel like he gets enough attention at his home and that he has to kill himself in order to get attention. So for his parents to keep him under control they have to start to give him just as much attention as his brothers and sisters get. There are many reasons that people lie but their rarely a good thing to do. Plus if you lie people may not believe you when you are actually telling the truth which could be dangerous if you are in a serious situation.
Lying may be necessary at times, but the results in the end will not be the one you wonted. So don’t lie and your life will be much, much easier. To keep people from pain you may have to lie, but it’s just a bad thing that you don’t or wont won’t to do again.
