Response To A Secret for Two
When someone has a disease they usually don’t enjoy talking about it to other people. Some may try to hide it, even though that could be dangerous. If they do hide their “problem,” they’re not always thinking about the consequences ahead of them. People have different afflictions, but for their safety they should never hide them from others.
In the story “A Secret for Two,” by Quentin Reynolds, a man and a horse are best friend, and the two of them share a secret. They both work for a milk delivery company together and the secret that they share isn’t something that should be a secret. The man ends up with a consequence for keeping the secret from other people. If you come across a pair of best friends, whether their two people or someone with their pet and they’re talking to each other, you may think about what they’re talking about. For all you know they are talking about what they’re having for dinner, or something no one else knows about. But if you do think about what they’re talking about, you’d rarely think that they would be talking about a “disease” that one of them has, that only they know about. When someone does keep serious things from people who could help, they obviously aren’t thinking about the outcome in the end.
“A Secret for Two” shows people what a more serious consequences might be when you do something like the man did. For most things like being blind, doctors can help you by having somebody with you at all times or you might even get a dog to “be your eyes.” Although being blind may give people difficulties, it’s just the way they have to live. Therefore they must do different things than people who aren’t the same, and can’t do the things others do.
When someone is unlucky enough to have this type of disadvantage, and choose to talk to someone else about it they will probably feel bad for them. Although, if they don’t, it’s probably because they’re more worried about someone else they know personally that has a “disease.” Many diseases do have ways to get better if it’s caught in time, but things like being blind do not. Technology has gone a long way in the last few decades which has helped people with things like cancer or having a tumor. Therefore the doctors can find the disease faster and can help them before it gets worse than it is.
“The Secret for Two” definitely shows the reader what happens when you keep secrets like the one the main character did. While the outcome was harsh in this story, it doesn’t mean that that will be the end in real life. No one should keep secrets, but if they do they should never keep secrets that could be harmful to the other person or yourself.
